Boone County announced on Apr. 16 the availability of a seasonal PRN Groundskeeper position to maintain the grounds of its Government Campus, which includes several key buildings such as the Courthouse, Law Enforcement Center, Human Services Building, and Boiler/Maintenance Building.

The job is designed to ensure that public spaces around county facilities are well-kept during peak maintenance months. The position will work as needed from approximately April through September and is classified as non-exempt, making it eligible for overtime pay. Hours may vary based on seasonal demands and offer some flexibility.

According to the job description, essential duties include working with the Building and Grounds Maintenance Director to care for lawns, trees, sidewalks, parking lots, and flowerbeds. Responsibilities also involve mowing grass, trimming areas around campus buildings, and maintaining flower beds. The use of steel or composite-toed boots is strongly recommended while working.

Applicants must possess an Iowa driver’s license and either a high school diploma or GED. They should be able to operate lawn mowers and other grounds care equipment independently with minimal supervision. A criminal background check, medical examination, and drug testing are required before employment can begin.

Physical requirements include climbing stairs or uneven terrain; stooping; kneeling; lifting items weighing between 60 and 80 pounds; standing for extended periods; walking; pushing or pulling equipment; finger dexterity; grasping tools or materials; carrying equipment across campus areas. Reasonable accommodation requests will be considered if needed.

Boone County stated that this job description reflects general responsibilities but may change as county needs evolve. The county also affirmed its commitment to being an equal opportunity employer.
