Iowa State University’s women’s volleyball team was defeated by No. 24 Colorado in four sets during a Big 12 conference match held in Boulder, Colorado. The Cyclones, now with a season record of 16-4 and 6-3 in the conference, lost by set scores of 22-25, 23-25, 25-16, and 23-25.
Despite the loss, Iowa State outside hitter Maya Duckworth reached a significant milestone by recording her 1,000th career kill during the third set. Duckworth is now the 12th player in Iowa State history to achieve this mark. She finished the match with seven kills.
Setter Morgan Brandt contributed significantly for Iowa State with 44 assists and eight digs. Alea Goolsby led the team offensively with 19 kills, tying for the most in the match. Tierney Jackson had an efficient performance, tallying 12 kills on 16 attempts without an error; her .750 hitting percentage ties for third-best in school history and is the highest since 2008.
Defensively, Rachel Van Gorp continued her streak of double-digit digs, reaching at least ten digs for her 25th consecutive match and totaling a match-high of 19 digs—her second straight contest reaching that number.
The Cyclones also registered a total of twelve blocks as a team. Freshman Reagan Hanfelt led with a career-high six blocks, while Amiree Hendricks-Walker returned to action to add five blocks along with six kills.
In set play, Iowa State managed to win only the third set after dropping the first two closely contested sets. In the fourth set, despite building an early lead, Colorado mounted a comeback to secure both the set and match victory.
Looking ahead, Iowa State will return home to host two ranked opponents: No. 19 Baylor on Wednesday and No. 6 Arizona State on Friday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
