The outside northbound lane of Grand Avenue from Eighth to 10th streets will be closed beginning Wednesday, May 31, weather permitting, to complete water system improvements on Grand Avenue. The inside northbound lane of Grand Avenue will remain open. There will be no access to Eighth, Ninth, and 10th streets on the east side of Grand Avenue. Also, the sidewalk on the east side of Grand Avenue from Eighth to 10th streets will be closed.

The City of Ames has contracted with Synergy Contracting LLC for this project, which will include installing new water mains, abandoning old water systems, and transferring services when needed. This project will include phases where the new main will be installed using boring methods to minimize open trenches. The project will also include installation of new hydrants, reconstruction of sidewalks at the new hydrant locations, and addition of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk ramps as needed. This phase of the project is expected to be completed in four weeks.

Motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time as delays may occur. Please use alternate routes if available. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone.
