If you travel on Iowa 15 just west of Whittemore in Kossuth County, be prepared for a temporary road closure starting June 9. The Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office announced that the closure will last until June 13, weather permitting, to allow for repairs on the Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroad crossing.

During this period, drivers will need to follow a marked detour route using Kossuth County Road B-40, 5th Street/Kossuth County Road P-16, and U.S. 18/Iowa 15. The Iowa DOT advises motorists to drive carefully, adhere to the posted speed limits and signs in the work area, and remember that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.

The department also reminds drivers to stay alert, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
