Stanislava Shulzhenko and Mari Paz Alberto Vilar’s season in the NCAA Doubles Championships ended in the Round of 16. The Iowa State duo made school history by becoming the first players from their program to reach this stage of the tournament, after winning their opening match on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Shulzhenko and Alberto Vilar faced Lily Fairclough and Daniela Borruel from USC. The match was closely contested, with both sets decided by tiebreakers. Fairclough and Borruel won 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5).

Despite the loss, Shulzhenko and Alberto Vilar are looking ahead to continue building on their achievements for the upcoming 2026 spring season.

“Shulzhenko and Alberto Vilar fought hard against USC’s Lily Fairclough and Daniela Borruel, but came up short in back-to-back set tiebreakers, falling by a score of 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5). The pair will look to continue the momentum they set into the 2026 spring season.”
