Iowa State University has completed its winter transfer class for the 2026 women’s soccer season with the addition of three new players. Head coach Matt Fannon announced that Giovanna Hansen from Portland State, Ava Hancock from Illinois, and Breezie Brewer from Alabama will join the Cyclones roster.
All three transfers will have multiple years of eligibility to play at Iowa State. Brewer is set to compete for two seasons, while Hansen and Hancock each have three years remaining.
“The staff worked incredibly hard through this transfer window to secure a tremendous group,” said Fannon. “We are excited to see them make a difference on the field and in the locker room.”
Brewer, a junior defender standing 5’7″, played in 15 games last season at Alabama and earned her first start against Tennessee. Over two years, she appeared in 25 matches, scoring one goal and providing one assist. Originally from Riverside, California, Brewer spent her first two collegiate seasons with the Crimson Tide alongside her sister Cali.
“Breezie is going to be a massive addition to our team,” said Fannon. “A left back capable of playing at the highest level, she is athletic, aggressive and ready to make an impact at both ends of the field.”
Hancock joins as a sophomore forward after appearing in two games during her freshman year at Illinois. The Springfield, Illinois native played a personal best of 32 minutes against Valparaiso on September 7.
“Ava is a bit of an old-school forward who loves to get her head down and run at people,” said Fannon. “She has a lot of potential and a lot of ability, and we are looking forward to her scoring a number of goals for us.”
Hansen arrives after completing her freshman season at Portland State where she participated in 19 games, starting eight times and logging over 600 minutes on the field. From North Bend, Washington, Hansen finished with nine shots—six on target—and contributed to Portland tying for second place in their conference standings.
“G is a tremendous all-round player with the ability to play multiple positions,” said Fannon. “She is a forward-thinking, aggressive player who is going to cause problems for other teams regardless of where she lines up for us.”
The additions complete Iowa State’s recruitment efforts during this winter transfer period.
