The two south lanes of South 16th Street from South Golden Aspen Drive to South Duff Avenue will close Thursday, May 25, weather permitting, to begin pavement removal and continuation of underground improvements on the street.
Traffic will be shifted to head-to-head traffic on the two north lanes of South 16th Street to allow one lane of traffic in each direction. Access to businesses will be maintained through this phase of construction, which is expected to take three to four weeks. The City has contracted with Con-Struct Inc. and its sub-contractor Keller Excavating for this project.
The South 16th Street and South Duff Avenue improvements are being constructed in stages. Completion of the overall project is anticipated by the end of 2023. Stages of the project include reconstruction and widening of concrete pavement on South 16th Street east and west of South Duff Avenue, infill of sidewalk on the south side of South 16th Street from South Grand Avenue to just west of Menards, and traffic signal improvements at South 16th Street and South Duff Avenue.
Motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time to detour around the work zone. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling near construction zones. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone.
