Ames Parks and Recreation is seeking summer job hunters and is hosting an event to showcase employment opportunities with the department. The Summer Job Tailgate will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 at the Homewood Golf Course Clubhouse, 401 E. 20th St. The event will include free food, games, and prizes! Parks and Recreation staff will also be available to share information and answer questions about current and summer job opportunities.

“We hire approximately 400 temporary and part-time staff throughout the year, but the summer is when we have the largest staffing demand,” said Recreation Superintendent Courtney Kort. “There are many part-time and temporary positions at the Community Center, Ames City Auditorium, Ames/ISU Ice Arena, Homewood Golf Course, and Furman Aquatic Center. We are also hiring in specialty areas like park maintenance, fitness and wellness, and youth and adult activities.”

The minimum age for positions is 14 years old. Individuals can view current job openings and apply at www.cityofames.org/jobs.

“This is an opportunity for people to seek employment doing something they love,” Kort said. “We have students, teachers, and retirees spending their summer working in areas of Parks and Recreation because they enjoy those specific pursuits and want to ensure they are available for others to enjoy. It’s a great opportunity to pair a passion with a summer job.”

The Parks and Recreation Department manages 38 parks and offers approximately 180 athletic, aquatic, instructional, and wellness programs. Indoor programs are provided throughout the winter at the Community Center and Ames/ISU Ice Arena. For more information, go to the Parks and Recreation homepage at www.amesparkrec.org or call the Community Center at 515.239.5350.
