Reconstruction of the southwest corner of the intersection of 13th Street and Duff Avenue will begin Monday, June 6, pending successful water main testing. The southwest corner will be closed to traffic, and vehicles traveling south on Duff Avenue will shift to single lane, head-to-head traffic at the Duff Avenue and 13th Street intersection. Right turns for eastbound traffic from 13th Street onto Duff Avenue will be restricted at times during construction, and no truck turns will be allowed. The anticipated time to complete the reconstruction of southwest section of the intersection is about two weeks.
The south lanes of East 13th Street, from Duff to Meadowlane avenues, remain closed as reconstruction of the south two lanes continues. Traffic is shifted to the two north lanes to provide one lane of traffic in each direction. Access to East 13th Street at Carroll, Stafford, Maxwell, and Glendale avenues also remains closed. Traffic on Meadowlane Avenue at East 13th Street will be right turn only.
The City of Ames has contracted with Con-Struct to complete this project, which will include new concrete street pavement, storm and sanitary sewer improvements, water main replacement, residential water transfers, shared use path, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk ramp improvements.
At all times, one lane of 13th Street in each direction will remain open to traffic. However, access to side streets will be restricted for safety reasons and to ease potential congestion of the construction zone. Construction is anticipated to be completed in fall 2022. As with all projects, the actual duration will depend on weather conditions.
All are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time as delays will occur. The work zone will have low speeds and narrow lanes. Please use alternate routes if available. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling through the construction area.
