The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors have signed worker contracts for Public Health and Secondary Roads employees.

Public Health and Secondary Roads employees, who are members of the American Federal, State County and Municipal Employees Local 2205, will get 2 percent increases. The 2 percent increases are consistent with what non-union employees received.

Employees with the Communication Workers of America will get a 3 percent pay raise in 2020.

In 2019, union contract negotiations lasted for weeks and featured protests from workers who were trying to protect their contracts. The supervisors kept sick leave and grievance procedures language in the new contracts, just as they did last year.

The contract includes a 2 percent raise for Fiscal Year 2021 and 2022.

Removal of permissive language, which includes most parts of previous contracts, is permissible as part of the changes to Iowa Public Sector Bargaining Laws, which were passed in 2017.
