Ames Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

Pridefest 2020 Storytelling Project

Saturday, July 25, 2020 6:00 PM - 7:30 PMCST

Ames Public Library

515 Douglas Ave

Ames, IA 50010

The Pridefest 2020 Storytelling Project creates opportunities for local people to tell their stories during our Pridefest celebration. Stories will be shared in multiple ways including in a scheduled monthly event, via social media posts and through other programming formats as storytellers would like.

In our ongoing commitment to amplify the voices of our diverse community, all are encouraged to apply. Stories must speak to the experience of the LGBTQIA+ community. Priority will be given to stories that:

  1. Are both told by and speak to queer and transgender storytellers of color, LGBTQIA+ storytellers with disabilities and all underrepresented groups within the LGBTQIA+ community.
  2. Incorporate or connect to current issues.
  3. Come from local community members or those who have demonstrated a connection to Ames Pride and Ames Pridefest.
More information is available at www.amespride.org/storytelling.

We are soliciting submissions for the following monthly themes (event date in parenthesis):

July: Independence (Sat Jul 25)

August: New Beginnings (Sat Aug 29)

September: Education and/or Labor (Sat Sep 26)

October: Gender Expression, Alternate Personas and/or Coming Out (Sat Oct 24)

November: Giving Thanks (Sat Nov 21)

Watch the Storytelling Project Facebook page for details about storytelling and other programs, as well as for live event links. Thanks for spreading the word!
