The State of Iowa has received more than $1 million in rental assistance funding to help residents impacted by the Aug. 10 derecho.
“Today’s announcement will provide direct assistance to many Iowans struggling to pay their rent because of this summer’s derecho,” Gov. Kim Reynolds said in a Nov. 5 post on her website. “The State of Iowa is committed to full recovery no matter how long it takes.”
Individuals must have resided in Benton, Boone, Cedar, Clinton, Jasper, Linn, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story or Tama County at the time of the natural disaster to be eligible for the assistance, according to Reynolds' website. Additionally, renters must possess a household income of at or below 80% of the area median income.
Eligible renters can apply for the assistance through Anawim Housing, the City of Cedar Rapids or the Eastern Iowa Housing Corporation. Each agency received $364,000 in rental assistance through the federal HOME program.
