City of Gilbert recently issued the following announcement on September 15.
The nomination was made by Joshua Bennett who had this to say about Brent:
Brent is a longtime resident who will continue to live in and serve the community for decades to come. Brent currently serves as the volunteer EMS Lieutenant for the Fire Department. As the EMS captain, I continually rely on him as one of our most frequent responders. When he changed jobs to work full-time for the school district, we all breathed a sigh of relief knowing a dedicated and knowledgeable EMT would be a constant presence in our community during the day. Brent works hard to serve the school district, and still routinely drops everything he is working on to respond to our citizens' emergencies. In today's day and age when many people are looking for excuses to shed responsibilities, he doubles down because he knows the community needs it. I can remember more than a few serious medical emergencies Brent has been forced to handle by himself while waiting for other responders. Brent gives this community a significant amount of his time, sleep, potential income, skills, education, and energy and a noticeable gap would be present if he was not here.
In addition to serving the community through his work with the fire department, he is always ready to help others in the community with other needs. Sometimes it can be moving large furniture or doing some yard work or even helping to plan community events like Gilbert Days. Brent goes above and beyond and definitely deserves to be the Gilbert Citizen of the Year.
