City of Ames recently issued the following announcement.

Public Input Meeting: Ioway Creek Brookside Park Project

The public is invited to a series of informational meetings scheduled for March 10, March 21, and April 5, about the proposed Ioway Creek Restoration Project in and along Brookside Park. All meetings will be held at Ames City Auditorium, at 520 Sixth St.

The purpose of the project is to restore stream function and stabilize the Ioway streambanks on a section of the creek between Sixth and 13th streets in Brookside Park and on adjoining private properties on the east side of the creek. The revised conceptual plan for the creek corridor will be presented and discussed at the meetings. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend the meetings, give input, and ask questions about the proposed restoration project.

  • Thursday, March 10, 5:30 p.m.: Focus will be on stream alignment, hydraulics, Iowa River Restoration Toolbox, improving water quality, oxbow restoration opportunities, and DNR Fisheries input.
  • Monday, March 21, 5:30 p.m.: Focus will be on existing invasive species, options for re-vegetation, discussion of trees to be removed and which can be saved, habitat restoration and enhancement (bees, birds, wildlife), and educational and recreational opportunities.
  • Tuesday April 5, 5:30 p.m.: A general meeting for another opportunity to provide input and ask questions before finalizing design and applying for permits.
