The community is invited to enjoy a night of music and art on Thursday, June 2, at two events: City Council Night at the Bandshell and the annual Downtown Ames Art Walk.
City Council Night at the Bandshell will be Thursday, June 2, at Bandshell Park, 125 E. Fifth St. This traditional summer event includes the opportunity to meet Ames City Councilmembers as they hand out free ice cream and Ames water beginning at 7 p.m. Additionally, several City of Ames departments will be showcasing sustainability programs, services, and rebates. Ames Electric Service will be distributing LED lightbulbs to customers (one per Ames address as supplies last).
The Ames Municipal Band concert, conducted by Michael Golemo and featuring internationally acclaimed bass baritone Simon Estes as the guest soloist, will begin at 8 p.m. The concert is free, and attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the park. In the event of severe weather, Council Night at the Bandshell will be rescheduled.
Art Walk will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. June 2, in Downtown Ames. This family-friendly annual event showcases downtown businesses as well as community artists, including painters, jewelry makers, photographers, woodworkers, potters, sculptors, musicians, and more.
