Reconstruction of North Second Street from North Maple to North Elm avenues will begin Monday, July 25. This work will include removal and replacement of the existing roadway surface and improvements to storm, water, and sanitary sewer utilities. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk ramps will also be updated.
The City of Ames has contracted with All Star Concrete for this project. The first phase of the project will begin with pavement removal at North Maple Avenue and work east to the midblock between North Oak and North Elm avenues. During this phase of the project, which is expected to take five to six weeks to complete, North Second Street from east of North Maple Avenue to midblock between North Oak and North Elm avenues will be closed to traffic. The intersection at North Oak Avenue will also be closed to traffic. Following completion of this phase of the project, work will proceed eastward to North Elm Avenue.
All are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time as delays will occur. Motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists are encouraged to use alternate routes if available and exercise caution when traveling near the construction area.
