Ames Fire Responds to Inis Grove Park Fires

Ames Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Inis Grove Park, 2500 Duff Ave., at 10:45 p.m. Thursday evening. Upon arrival, crews found dark, turbulent smoke visible from three sides of the restroom north of Walnut Shelter. The restroom, located off Duff Avenue, is closed until further notice.

It is believed the fire started in a nearby trash can which spread to the restroom. Additionally, crews extinguished fires elsewhere in Inis Grove Park, including three trash can fires near Shagbark Shelter and a fourth fire discovered in a trash can near the Miracle Playground.

These fires are suspicious and are being investigated by the Ames Fire and Ames Police departments. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Ames Police at 515.239.5133 or the anonymous tip line at 515.239.5533. Ames parks close at 10:30 p.m. daily. Anyone noticing park usage after hours in any Ames park is asked to call that information into the Ames Police non-emergency number at 515.239.5133 and include any identifying information.
