The public is invited to a reception for outgoing Finance Director Duane Pitcher, who is retiring from the City of Ames after 22 years of service. The reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 515 Clark Ave. There will be a brief program at 3 p.m.
As Finance Director, Pitcher oversees the overall financial administration of the City and supervises the City’s Accounting and Reporting, Purchasing, Utility Customer Service, and Information Technology divisions. His department includes budgeting, accounting, utility billing and collection, debt issuance and debt management, investment management, and retirement plan administration.
Pitcher joined the City of Ames staff as Finance Director in 2000. He came to Ames after spending eight years as the Finance Director for the City of Dubuque. Prior to that, he was a treasury analyst with Citibank in Oakland, Calif. Pitcher is a graduate of Iowa State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in transportation logistics. He later earned a master’s degree from California State University. Pitcher served in the U.S. Navy from 1983 to 2013, and retired as a captain.
