EcoFair Returns on Saturday, Oct. 1; Event Provides Sustainability Information

For Ames residents interested in learning more about sustainability, energy and water conservation, improving water quality, creating pollinator habitat, and reducing your carbon footprint, the EcoFair has returned with the answers! On Saturday, Oct. 1, the west parking lot of City Hall, 515 Clark Ave., will be filled with booths, vendors, activities, and displays focusing on these topics and more! The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The EcoFair will provide a broad array of conservation information featuring displays about the City of Ames’ Eco Smart programs, which include electricity, water, watershed, and trash. New vendors and organizations from around the community will be participating in the event. This sustainability-focused event is free and educational. There will be activities specifically targeted at younger participants, and a display of City vehicles along Fifth Street.

Do you have extra school supplies or need to grab a few items for the school year? Take advantage of our eco-friendly School Supply Exchange. This booth will allow you to drop items your students no longer need or pick up necessary supplies to get through the first semester.

“We are excited to bring the EcoFair back to the City Hall and showcase many of the sustainability efforts around the community,” said Municipal Engineer Tracy Peterson. “By moving outdoors, we will be able to highlight some of our stormwater retention features in the west parking lot along with displaying our City hybrid and electric fleet vehicles.”

Another focus will be a vehicle exhibit of privately owned all-electric vehicles. The display will feature several models of electric cars including Tesla, Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, Audi, and Rivian, displayed just south of the Community Center in the Zions Agricultural Finance parking lot, 526 Fifth St. The vehicle owners will be available to answer questions about their electric cars and trucks.

Please join us for this free, informative, and family-friendly event.
