Residents Sought for Appointment to Ames Public Art Commission

Mayor John Haila is looking for Ames residents interested in volunteering their time to serve on the Public Art Commission. There are currently four openings on the Commission.

The 14-member Public Art Commission establishes public art philosophy, develops a public art plan for the City, monitors the public art budget and recommends funding allocations for public art within City facilities, develops guidelines for selecting artwork, seeks private and governmental funding for public art, and develops educational, promotional projects for public arts programming.

“Volunteering to serve on a City of Ames commission is an excellent way to become more involved in our community, particularly in an area where someone is already very passionate, such as public art,” said Haila. “With busy schedules, it’s not easy to find time to volunteer, so we very much appreciate those residents who are able to make the commitment.”

The Public Art Commission meets on the first Tuesday of each monthly at 5:30 p.m.

Volunteers interested in filling a vacancy have until 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, to complete an application. Visit www.CityOfAmes.org/BoardsAndCommissions for more information about specific boards, applications, and appointment criteria.
