City of Ames Parks staff will be closing the pedestrian bridge through the Elwood Pasture between Sixth Street and Lincoln Way for repairs starting Monday, Oct. 17. The repairs include replacing the wood decking on the bridge and are expected to last through Wednesday, Oct. 19. Staff will open the bridge for use later in the day on Wednesday once the project is completed.
“The bridge is structurally sound, but the wood decking needs replaced because it is showing wear,” said Joshua Thompson, Parks and Facilities Superintendent. “We understand the closure is inconvenient, but it’s important to get this repaired now to avoid future safety concerns.”
Pedestrians and bicyclists should detour to the shared use path along the west side of University Avenue between Sixth Street and Lincoln Way.
