Beginning Monday, June 5, 28th Street between Hoover and Northwestern avenues will be closed to traffic to start removal and replacement of the pavement. Sidewalks will remain open. This work is expected to take six to seven weeks to complete.
The City of Ames has contracted with Manatts Inc. for the reconstruction of 28th Street from Hoover to Ferndale Avenues, which includes removing and replacing stormwater intakes, spot replacement of sewer and water main utilities, and updating sidewalk ramps to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. This phase of the project will be followed by full closure of 28th Street from Northwestern to Ferndale avenues for street reconstruction.
Motorists are encouraged to take note of this construction and allow extra travel time to detour around the work zone. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling near construction zones. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone.
