Motorists traveling east on George Washington Carver Avenue will not have access to Stange Road beginning Monday, June 12, and those traveling west on 24th Street or from Stange Road will have to detour to access George Washington Carver Avenue. The western half of the Stange Road intersection with 24th Street/ George Washington Carver Avenue will be closed. Also, motorists will shift to single lane traffic on the newly paved northbound lanes of Stange Road, weather permitting. Access to Greensboro Drive at Stange Road will also be closed, but access to Edenburn Drive will reopen.

The crosswalk on the east side of the Stange Road and 24th Street intersection will be open, but all other crosswalks will be closed. The shared use path along the west side of Stange Road will open south of the intersection at Greensboro Drive.

These closures and traffic shift are needed to begin the removal and replacement of the two southbound lanes of Stange Road from Blankenburg Drive to 24th Street. This phase is anticipated to take five to six weeks.

Access to George Washington Carver Avenue will be available by detouring to Stange Road and Bloomington Road.

The City of Ames has contracted with Con-Struct for the reconstruction of Stange Road and 24th Street. This will be a two-year project with construction on Stange Road in 2023 and on 24th Street in 2024.

For more project information, please visit the project information webpage at www.CityOfAmes.org/stange.

Motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists are encouraged to take note of this construction activity and use alternate routes if possible. Follow the signed detour route for the George Washington Carver Avenue and Stange Road intersection closure. The work zone will have low speeds and narrow lanes. Use caution when traveling in the area and allow extra travel time as delays will occur. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone.

For more information, contact Dean Sayre, Civil Engineer II, at dean.sayre@cityofames.org  or 515.239.5277. For general construction updates, go to www.CityOfAmes.org/Construction.
