A lane closure on Sixth Street between Grand and Hodge avenues will begin on Thursday, June 15, to facilitate a water valve abandonment project. At mid-block on Sixth Street, a section of the eastbound turning lane and bicycle lane will be closed, and all eastbound traffic will be shifted into one lane. The eastbound right turn lane will reopen near the intersection with Grand Avenue. Other traffic flow through the Sixth Street and Grand Avenue intersection will remain unchanged.
While the bicycle lane will be closed, the sidewalk will be open during this project.
The City of Ames has contracted with Synergy Contracting for this infrastructure work, which is expected to take two days to complete. The lane is anticipated to reopen on Monday, June 19.
Motorists are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time to detour around the work zone. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling near construction zones. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone.
