Oakwood Road from University Boulevard to halfway between Green Hills Drive and White Oak Road will be closed beginning Thursday, July 6, weather permitting. The shared use path along the south side of Oakwood Road in this area will also be closed. The closure is necessary to begin reconstruction of Oakwood Road from University Boulevard to Timberland Road. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians should follow the signed detour routes.

The City of Ames has contracted with Con-Struct for this project, which includes replacing the existing two-lane section of road with a three-lane section that features one lane of traffic in each direction and a center turn lane. Curb and gutter will also be placed to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff onto adjacent properties. A new 24-inch storm sewer will be constructed on the south side of Oakwood Road along with additional intakes on both the north and south side of the road. Improvements will be made to the existing shared use path, several crossing locations along Oakwood Road, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps.

For more project information, please visit the project information webpage at www.CityOfAmes.org/oakwood.

The first phase of the project, which is anticipated to take seven to eight weeks, will begin with saw cutting and removal of pavement, followed by construction of a new storm sewer line on the south side of Oakwood Road. The project will also require the trimming of several trees along the south side of Oakwood Road for equipment to properly operate. Reconstruction of Oakwood Road west to Woodview Drive will begin following completion of this phase.

Motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists are encouraged to take note of this construction activity and follow the signed detour route. Use caution when traveling in the area and allow extra travel time. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone.
