Due to the success of Ames Animal Shelter’s June “Adopt a Cat Month” adoption specials, discounts on cat adoptions are being extended through the end of July. The Shelter adopted out 200 percent more adult cats in June 2023 compared to June 2022, with adult cat adoptions outpacing kitten adoptions by 560 percent during the month.

“We are very pleased with the overwhelming success of this adoption specials program and hope to keep the momentum going,” said Ames Animal Control Supervisor Ron Edwards. “Although the adoption fee is lowered with the special, our adoption protocols remain the same to ensure every cat in the Shelter is placed into a loving home of its own.”

The adoption specials are:

  • Adult cats (6 months and older): $25 each. No discounts on 2-for-1 adoptions; $25 each, which is $50 less than the regular 2-for-1 adoption fee.
  • Kittens (5 months and under): $100. The cost for 2-for-1 kitten adoptions is $100.
Adoption fees include head-to-tail exam by the Shelter’s veterinary technician, spay/neuter prior to adoption, age-appropriate vaccinations, test for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) status, tests for intestinal parasites/treatment for any identified intestinal parasites, flea preventative, microchip with 24PetWatch (lifetime registration included), carrier to get the cat safely home, and a starter kit with food and toys.

To view the cats available for adoption, visit www.AmesAnimalShelter.org. Animals are available for in-person viewing by adoption appointment only. The Ames Animal Shelter is located at 325 Billy Sunday Road. For other services or more information, call the Shelter at 515.239.5530 or visit their website at www.AmesAnimalShelter.org.
