Iowa State University’s women’s volleyball team improved its season record to 7-1 after defeating Omaha in four sets on Sunday. The match scores were 25-14, 25-22, 19-25, and 25-21.

Freshman Alea Goolsby led the Cyclones with a career-high 24 kills at a .278 hitting percentage over four sets. She also contributed seven digs, three blocks, and three assists. Goolsby made an early impact with seven kills in the first set and continued her performance throughout the match.

Maya Duckworth reached a milestone by surpassing 900 career kills, finishing the night with 13 and bringing her total to 912. Morgan Brandt recorded a season-best of 48 assists, along with three kills, one ace, and a block. Rachel Van Gorp notched her third career match with more than 20 digs—her first this season—finishing with 23 digs and adding an ace at the service line.

In the opening set, Pam McCune started strong for Iowa State with four kills on five attempts without an error. The Cyclones registered a season-best 19 kills in the first frame at a .366 efficiency rate.

The second set saw Omaha keeping pace until two consecutive kills from Goolsby helped Iowa State pull ahead for a 25-22 win. McCune added five more kills during that set.

Omaha responded in the third set after several ties and lead changes, taking it by a score of 25-19.

In the fourth set, Van Gorp’s serving led to an eight-point run for Iowa State that included six combined kills from Amiree Hendricks-Walker and Goolsby. Omaha managed to tie the score at 17 before Iowa State regained control and secured victory on another kill from Goolsby assisted by Brandt.

Iowa State will next face Big Ten opponents on the road: Iowa in Coralville on Wednesday as part of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, followed by matches against Eastern Illinois and Illinois at the Illinois Tournament later in the week.
