The Iowa State swimming and diving team held its annual Cardinal and Gold Meet on Friday evening in Ames, Iowa. The event featured members of the team split into two squads, Cardinal and Gold, competing against each other across 17 events.

Team Cardinal secured victory by winning nine events. Corrine Guist, serving as captain for Team Cardinal, led her squad with wins in both the 100 and 200 freestyle races. On Team Gold, freshman Kendall Mallers delivered a strong showing by taking first place in the 50 and 200 butterfly events.

Head coach Matt Leach commented on the team's progress: "We had a lot of people that were ahead of where they were a year ago," said Leach. "A lot of our freshman stepped up and were ready to race, and to me, that was the biggest thing. People that are doing things the right way, winning their events and swimming well, and this is just our first step."

Other notable performances included Kendall Schindler and Liv Moore tying for first in the 50 freestyle for Team Gold; Anja Peck winning the 200 breaststroke for Team Gold; Emma Kuhn taking first in the 100 backstroke for Team Cardinal; Ally Blumenfeld securing victory in one-meter diving for Team Cardinal; Lili Neisser winning both the 50 backstroke and 200 backstroke for Team Cardinal; Kate Mitchell claiming top spot in three-meter diving for Team Gold; Matilde Geromin finishing first in the 50 breaststroke for Team Cardinal; Grace Swoboda winning the 100 breaststroke for Team Cardinal; Abbi Crum capturing gold in the 200 individual medley for Team Gold; Miray Abay placing first in the 500 freestyle for Team Gold; and a win by Team Cardinal in the concluding 200 freestyle relay.

The Cyclones will return to competition next weekend at Beyer Pool with an Alumni Meet scheduled for Friday, October 10 at 5 p.m., followed by their regular season opener against Nebraska on Saturday, October 11 at 11 a.m.
