Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Stanislava Shulzhenko from Iowa State University advanced to the doubles semifinals at the ITA Sectionals in College Station, Texas. The pair defeated Northwestern's Mika Fruchtman and Neena Feldman with a score of 6-2, 4-6, [10-8]. They are scheduled to play against Daria Smetannikov and Mia Kupress from Texas A&M on Saturday morning.
Alberto Vilar also competed in singles but lost in the second round to Kyoka Kubo of Kansas in three sets.
At the H-E-B Invitational in Waco, Iowa State players earned several victories on the opening day. Gabriella Kellner and Valeska San Martin Ramirez won both their doubles matches, defeating teams from Denver and UTSA. Suzanie Pretorius and Julia Camblor secured a win over UTRGV before losing their second match.
In singles play at the H-E-B Invitational, Kellner beat Milica Vasiliki Milosavljevic of UTRGV, while San Martin won against Illinois' Rose Seccia. Other Cyclones—Camblor, Pretorius, and Kira Smith—were defeated in their singles matches.
Iowa State will continue competing at the H-E-B Invitational on Saturday.
