City of Ames issued the following announcement on Apr. 23.
Despite cancelling events and closing City buildings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City departments are finding creative ways to bring new programs and services to citizens. Ames Electric Services is now offering their home energy audits in a virtual format. Customers who sign up for a virtual audit through the end of April will get two free LED light bulbs delivered contact-free to their front door.
“With people home more now than ever before, this seems like the perfect time to introduce an energy audit that can be done without sending an expert physically on site,” said Kayley Barrios Lain, Energy Services Coordinator with Ames Electric Services. “We are offering conservation tips and customized energy-saving action items by having customers virtually take the auditors on a home tour.”
Within a few days after signing up for a virtual energy audit online, customers will receive a phone call from The Energy Group to schedule the audit. Participants will need an internet-enabled cell phone or tablet with a camera to walk the auditor around the home. Energy audits are offered free of charge to Ames Electric Services customers to support efforts to use electricity more sustainably.
Virtual home energy audits are part of a series of Smart Energy education, outreach, and rebates that promote energy conservation, sustainable practices, safety, and renewable energy.
