Healthiest Ames put together a community project where volunteers sew face masks to ensure that every student in the ACSD community is given one for the upcoming school year.
The project has a dual focus on volunteers sewing a large number of masks and Healthiest Ames requesting financial donations to purchase them. The purpose of the collaborative movement is to establish a healthy and safe environment for students and staff who are returning to school.
Founded in 2011, Healthiest Ames is a volunteer group that represents various organizations promoting the health and wellness of Ames residents. Their focus lies on healthy food choices, community connectedness, health condition awareness and physical activity.
“We are hoping for widespread support from Ames community members as we work together to create a healthy environment for Ames students returning to school,” Healthiest Ames board member Ann Thompson said in a City of Ames press release.

Patterns, directions and instructional videos can be located here.
Face mask kits can be picked up Monday through Thursday, 9 to 11 a.m. at Ames Community School District office, 2005 24th St.
Donations that are tax-deductible can be made through their website. Checks need to be made out to Healthiest Ames and sent to P.O. Box 166, Ames, Iowa 50011.
