Hoover Avenue will be closed to traffic from Wheeler Street north to Bloomington Road beginning Wednesday, May 17, weather permitting. Hoover Avenue will be open from Wheeler Street to the south. Additionally, access to north and south Hoover Avenue will be closed at the Bloomington Road intersection, and traffic along Bloomington Road at the intersection of Hoover Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
The City of Ames has contracted with Manatts Inc. for the phased reconstruction and rehabilitation of Hoover Avenue from 24th Street to Top O Hollow Road, which began in 2022. This phase of the project includes removal of the existing street surface and placement of new asphalt surface from Wheeler Street to Bloomington Road. This phase of the project is expected to take two weeks to complete.
Motorists are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time to detour around the work zone. Sidewalks remain open for bicyclists and pedestrians. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling near construction zones. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone.
