Entries are now being accepted for the 2023 City of Ames Water Treatment Plant Public Art Contest and Exhibition. Each year, this exhibit is used to obtain public art for the water treatment plant. Artists may enter up to three two-dimensional pieces of art for the contest and exhibition. The focus for each piece must be related to this year’s theme, “The Importance of Drinking Water.” Submission deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8.
“This art contest and exhibit is a way to showcase the vitally important role that water plays in our lives,” said John Dunn, Water and Pollution Control Director. “Having the art represent water in all of its many forms and functions highlights the purpose of the Water Treatment Plant, and also provides an enjoyable environment for anyone who comes to the building.”
Water and Pollution Control staff will jury the entries from submitted photos. Artists whose work is selected for exhibition will be notified by Sept. 22. Art selected will be on display from Oct. 16 through Nov. 3, 2023, at the Water Treatment Plant, 1800 E. 13th St. During the exhibit, City of Ames staff and the public will be allowed to vote for “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice.” In addition, voting will be open on the City of Ames Water and Pollution Control Instagram page for the “Most Likable” award. Only one vote per person per piece will be allowed. “Best in Show” will be awarded $400, “People’s Choice” will be awarded $200, and “Most Likable” will be awarded $100.
Each piece entered will be considered for purchase by the City for its permanent art collection.
