A Red Shirt Drill will be held on Thursday, July 13, at Furman Aquatic Center, as part of weekly in-service trainings for lifeguard staff to practice their rescue skills and execution of emergency action plans (EAPs). The drill is called a Red Shirt Drill because an individual at the facility will play the role of “victim” while wearing a red shirt. This individual will simulate an emergency and staff will respond.
Red Shirt Drills provide a realistic scenario of an emergency and create an environment where performance can be evaluated to ensure staff are ready to act under stressful situations. Police, fire, and ambulance services all play a role in this drill, so Furman visitors should not be alarmed to see this training take place on Thursday.
“We appreciate the cooperation from all parties who play a vital role in this process and work to make Furman Aquatic Center a safe and fun facility,” said Aquatics Manager LeAnn Hawk. “We ask that patrons be cooperative with the drill and go about their activities at the facility as normal.”
