If you travel on U.S. 18 east of Ruthven in Palo Alto County, be prepared for a temporary road closure starting June 16. The Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office announced that the closure will allow for repairs to the Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroad crossing. The road is expected to remain closed until June 27, weather permitting.

During the closure, drivers will follow a marked detour. The route takes motorists north on Palo Alto County Road N-18 from its intersection with U.S. 18. From there, travelers will head east on Palo Alto County Road B-25 to Palo Alto Road N-26, then continue north until reaching Palo Alto County Road B-14. The detour concludes by traveling east to Iowa 4 and then south back to U.S. 18.

The Iowa DOT advises drivers to exercise caution, adhere to posted speed limits and signs in the work area, and note that traffic fines are doubled in work zones. Drivers should remain alert, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
