Nighttime maintenance work on westbound Interstate 80 in Polk County will necessitate a full closure from 10 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, until 5 a.m. on Friday, June 20. The Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 1 office announced that the closure is required to repair pavement between the Northeast Mixmaster and the U.S. 65 bypass.
During this period, drivers will be directed to follow a marked detour route using U.S. 65, Hubbell Avenue, U.S. 6/East Euclid Avenue, and I-235 to return to westbound I-80 at the Northeast Mixmaster.
The Iowa DOT advises motorists to exercise caution, adhere to posted speed limits and signs in the work area, and remain aware that traffic fines for moving violations are doubled in work zones. Drivers are reminded to stay alert, maintain ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
