U.S. 6/East Euclid Avenue in Des Moines will be temporarily closed for construction work on June 21 and 22, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's Grimes Construction office. The closure is scheduled from midnight on Saturday, June 21, until 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, weather permitting. The affected area is between 6th Avenue and 2nd Avenue.
The closure is part of the East Euclid Avenue reconstruction project stretching from the Des Moines River Bridge to York Street. During this period, milling work and hot-mix asphalt overlay will be conducted. Motorists will need to follow a marked detour using 2nd Avenue, University Avenue, and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.
The Iowa DOT advises drivers to exercise caution in the work zone by adhering to speed limits and other posted signs. Traffic fines for moving violations are doubled in these areas. Drivers are also reminded to stay alert, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
