Iowa State tennis competes at Nebraska Invitational; Pretorius earns opening day win

Four Iowa State tennis players began their season on Friday at the Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln. Suzanie Pretorius secured the only win for the Cyclones on day one, defeating Nebraska’s Catherine Gagnon 6-0, 6-0 in singles play. Gabriella Kellner, Valeska San Martin Ramirez, and Gabriela Felix were defeated in their respective singles matches.

In doubles competition, Pretorius and Kellner lost to Zhanel Rustamova and Diana Smolinska of Kansas State 7-6 (4). San Martin Ramirez and Felix were beaten by Tess Bucher and Alice Xu of Illinois 6-2. The same pair also fell to Conely Raidt and Maria Taranova from Nebraska 6-3. Kellner and Pretorius lost to Michelle Kleynerman and Korina Roso of Minnesota 6-1.

The Cyclones are scheduled to continue play at the tournament Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
