Iowa State University's women's soccer team lost 3-1 to No. 7 TCU on Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas. The Cyclones, now 4-5-2 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12 Conference, were unable to recover from a three-goal deficit set by TCU in the first half.

Playing with a roster reduced to just seven reserves, Iowa State conceded two goals within the first nine minutes of play. AJ Hennessey scored for TCU at the eighth minute, assisted by Kamdyn Fuller. Less than a minute later, Cameron Patton added another goal for the Horned Frogs. Seven Castain scored TCU's third goal in the 32nd minute, bringing her season total to ten.

Iowa State managed only one shot attempt in the first half, taken by Isabella Agrusso and blocked by TCU's defense. At halftime, ISU trailed 3-0 and had been outshot nine to one.

The Cyclones improved their defense after halftime and limited TCU to three shots in the second period. Midway through the second half, Iowa State capitalized on a corner kick when Ella Ciardullo delivered a ball that Sophie Forrester headed into the net at the back post. This marked Forrester’s second goal as a Cyclone and Ciardullo’s second assist of the season.

Despite closing out strong defensively and matching TCU with two corner kicks each for the match, Iowa State could not close the gap further. Kasey Cannistraro made one save for ISU while Musuai Isaia recorded two saves during her time in goal; both came after halftime.

TCU held an overall shot advantage of 12-2 over Iowa State. In goal for TCU, Kira Ybarra allowed one score but was not required to make any saves.

Afterward, head coach Matt Fannon commented: "We knew we would have some tough conditions today, and we didn't quite do enough in the first half to compete. Once we came out in the second and really fought and committed to the game plan, we were significantly better and deserved to win the half."

Next up for Iowa State is a home match against Kansas on Friday, October 10th at 6 p.m., which will be streamed live on ESPN+.
