Iowa State women’s tennis goes undefeated in singles at home tournament opener

The Iowa State women's tennis team began its first home fall tournament with a strong performance, remaining undefeated in singles matches on the opening day. The event took place in Ames, Iowa.

Gabriella Kellner, Suzanie Pretorius, and Kira Smith each secured singles victories for the Cyclones. Kellner and Pretorius started the day with a doubles loss to Minnesota's Anlin Xie and Yiong Ma but rebounded in their singles matches. Kellner defeated Ma 6-4, 6-2, while Pretorius overcame Xie in a close contest, winning 7-6 (2), 6-7 (2), 7-5. With this result, Pretorius improved her season singles record to 4-0.

Kira Smith partnered with Arkansas' Glennah Langford to win their doubles match against Kansas State's Addison and Mallory Renfro by a score of 8-2. Smith then won her singles match against Addison Renfro 6-1, 6-1. These results marked Smith's first collegiate victories.

Valeska San Martin Ramirez and Gabriela Felix were unable to secure wins in their doubles matches.

The tournament will continue on Saturday at 10 a.m.
