Iowa State University’s women’s soccer team is set to conclude its Texas road trip with a match against No. 7 TCU on Sunday, October 5, at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium in Fort Worth. The Cyclones, holding a 4-4-2 record overall and 1-3-0 in Big 12 play, are seeking their first win over a ranked opponent since 2022 as they attempt to break a three-game losing streak.
In their previous outing, Iowa State was shut out by Baylor for the second consecutive game. Baylor’s Callie Conrad scored twice while the Bears’ defense kept Iowa State from mounting a comeback.
TCU enters Sunday’s contest after being upset at home by Colorado on Thursday. Before that loss, TCU had maintained the conference's longest winning streak and will look to recover with another home game.
The Cyclones have seen notable performances this season. On September 11, they scored four second-half goals against UNI, marking the most in a half since 2012. Back-to-back games with four or more goals were achieved for the first time since 1999. Iowa State also recorded its first home win of the season against UND with a 4-0 victory—only the third time since 2013 they have scored four or more goals in one match.
Lucy Froitzheim provided a late equalizer against Drake with just 30 seconds left, setting a program record for latest game-tying goal. The team earned its 200th program win over Creighton on August 21 when Isabella Agrusso scored in the final minute—one of the latest winning goals in team history.
Iowa State began this season with its longest unbeaten start since 2013 and has had at least ten players register points for three straight seasons. The team was projected to finish last in the Big 12 preseason poll but has outperformed expectations in recent years. With only eight teams now qualifying for the Big 12 Championship, Iowa State faces increased competition as it aims to return to postseason play for the first time since 2021.
On offense, center back Ella Zimmerman and midfielder Morgan Goodman lead with three goals each; Goodman also leads in total points with seven. Taylor Spitzer has contributed two goals this season. Nine players have scored and nine have assisted so far.
Goalkeeper Kasey Cannistraro has started all ten matches, conceding thirteen goals and recording two clean sheets plus one combined shutout while making forty-one saves.
Overall, Iowa State has fourteen goals from one hundred eight shots this season (48% on target) and allowed thirteen goals defensively.
TCU’s attack is led by Seven Castain who leads her team—and ranks among conference leaders—with nine goals and twenty points. Kamdyn Fuller and Emma Yolinsky have each scored three times; AJ Hennessey and Sydney Becerra both have two apiece. Fuller also leads TCU in assists (four).
Goalkeepers Olivia Geller and Kira Ybarra share playing duties for TCU, combining for an average of just over one goal allowed per match across eleven games.
Historically, TCU holds a significant advantage over Iowa State in their series (9-2-3), with ISU looking for its first victory against TCU since 2014.
After Sunday’s matchup, Iowa State returns home to Ames next Friday to begin a three-game homestand starting with Kansas on October 10 at six p.m., which will be streamed live on ESPN+.
