Iowa State Cyclones women’s tennis opens ITA Regionals with three doubles wins

The Iowa State Cyclones women's tennis team began their participation in the ITA Regionals on Thursday by securing three victories in doubles matches.

Stanislava Shulzhenko and Mari Paz Alberto Vilar, playing together for the first time since their Blue-Gray Classic championship four weeks prior, defeated Annelise Deer and Milana Bozhko of Oral Roberts with a score of 8-4. Gabriela Felix and Valeska San Martin Ramirez earned a win against Nebraska's Catherine Gagnon and Tiziana Rossini, 8-5. Julia Camblor and Ashlee Narker completed the day’s wins by overcoming North Dakota's Jule Schulte and Ethel Li, 8-3.

Gabriella Kellner and Suzanie Pretorius were defeated in their doubles match by Emma Dvoracek and Sofia Mykhailets from Memphis, 8-4. In singles play, both Kellner and Felix lost their respective matches to competitors from Minnesota.

The Cyclones are scheduled to continue in the tournament on Friday with main draw singles matches and the second round of doubles competition.
