Cost of college went up for all students at Iowa State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.1 percent for 2018-19 at Iowa State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Iowa residents paid $8,988 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $352 more than the $8,636 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 160.3 percent more than residents this year, or $23,392. Their price tag grew 4.1 percent from $22,472 in 2017-18.

About 56 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Iowa residents. About 41 percent are residents of other states and 3 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 89 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 4,607 students received grants or scholarships totaling $36.8 million and 2,904 students took out student loans totaling more than $21.6 million.

Including all undergraduates (34,992), 21,604 students used grants or scholarships totaling $162.9 million, and 14,990 students took out $92.3 million in federal student loans.
