Iowa State University issued the following announcement on Nov. 12.
Cailie Logue added another victory to her legendary Cyclone career Friday by taking the top spot at the NCAA Cross Country Championships Midwest Regional at the Ashton Cross Country Course. Logue led the No. 13 Cyclones to a third-place finish, with the team scoring 81 points, only six away from No. 6 Oklahoma State in second and the auto-qualifying slots to the NCAA Championships.
Logue won her third-straight Midwest Region title and got her second win of 2021 to go with victory at the Roy Griak Invitational. She now has 11 victories in her cross country career. Logue also led a contingent of four Cyclones to earn All-Midwest Region honors, joined by Ashley Tutt (9th), Dana Feyen (14th) and Madelynn Hill (25th).
In addition, by virtue of finishing ahead of hosts Iowa in the team standings, Iowa State picked up two points in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series standings.
On a cold and windy day in Iowa City, the Cyclones took their time moving through a very tightly bunched pack, with nearly 80 runners within five seconds of the leader at the halfway mark. The third and fourth thousand meters of the race was when ISU made its move, getting into the top-2.
At 1K to go, Iowa State had three in the 16-person lead pack with Logue, Tutt and Feyen. Coming up the final hill, it was set to be a Big 12 battle for the win as Logue and Taylor Roe of Oklahoma State battled for the win. It was the Cyclone senior who was able to take advantage and bring home the win in 25:45.08, just over a second ahead of Roe.
Tutt came in ninth in 20:55.56, earning her second career All-Midwest Region honor and her first as a Cyclone. Feyen came 14th in 21:04.86 and Hill 21:18.95 to take 25th, both Cyclones earning first career All-Region nods. Winrose Chesang rounded out the Cyclone team scoring contingent in 32nd in 21:24.86.
