Iowa State prepares for dual meets against South Dakota State and South Dakota

Iowa State University's women's swimming and diving team is set to compete in two dual meets in South Dakota this week. The Cyclones, who currently have a record of 0-3, will first face South Dakota State on Thursday, October 24 at 5 p.m. in Brookings. They will then travel to Vermillion for a meet against South Dakota on Friday, October 25 at 3 p.m.

South Dakota State enters the competition with a season record of 2-2 and recently finished fifth at the Summit League Swimming & Diving Championships. Several swimmers from last year's lineup are returning for the Jackrabbits.

The second opponent, South Dakota, also holds a season record of 2-2 and was the runner-up at the most recent Summit League Swimming & Diving Championships.

In their last meet against Illinois, Iowa State achieved several top-three finishes. Grace Swoboda placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.31 seconds. Kendall Mallers won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.24. Sophomore Anja Peck finished in the top five in both the 100 breaststroke and the 400 individual medley. Carlotta Gazzola earned top-three finishes in both distance freestyle events (500 and 1000 freestyle).

On the diving side, Kate Mitchell, Grace Marek, Maggie Bendell, and Abby Tollefson swept the top four spots in platform diving.

Looking ahead to these back-to-back road meets, Iowa State aims to build on its strengths in butterfly events, distance freestyle races, and diving. The team's freshman class has also contributed across multiple events so far this season.

After completing their road trip in South Dakota, Iowa State will prepare for the Hawkeye Invitational scheduled for November 18–21 in Iowa City.
