Iowa State University’s women’s soccer team was eliminated from Big 12 Tournament contention after a 1-0 loss to No. 24 West Virginia in Morgantown on Thursday night. The defeat drops the Cyclones to a 4-8-3 overall record and 1-7-1 in conference play, while West Virginia improves to 11-2-3 and remains undefeated in its last 13 matches.
The only goal of the match came in the 22nd minute when Anna Hauer scored for West Virginia, assisted by Taylor White. Iowa State created two significant chances early, including a shot by Ella Ciardullo that was saved and another attempt by Megan Walters that hit the crossbar. Despite these opportunities, Iowa State trailed at halftime and managed just two shots in the second half.
Five Cyclones—Megan Walters, Makenna Marshall, Lucy Froitzheim, Ella Ciardullo, and Regan John—registered shots during the game. Goalkeeper Jordan Cannistraro played the full match and recorded five saves. Defenders Chloe Broughton, Makenna Marshall, and Erin Hopewell also played all ninety minutes.

Head coach Matt Fannon said: "We were excellent tonight, once again, but weren't able to finish our chances when we were on top. It's impossible to ask for anything more from our team than that, and I'm really proud of everyone."
Iowa State will play its next match against Cincinnati on Sunday, October 26 at noon Central Time. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
